Book Hackday took place on Saturday May 14 2011.
The event was the first to bring together hackers and publishing professionals, under a shared and united agenda: to co-create something that takes books forward.
Something is happening. Transmedia, open data, mashups, social reading, location awareness, user-generated content... they all contribute to what is becoming a fundamental disruption of what a book is capable of, what it is for, and how it works with the reader.
Book Hackday represented the start of the Future of Publishing programme. The best concepts and prototypes developed during the event will be showcased at the Future of Publishing conference on Thursday 6 October at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, helping these innovative new services and products develop towards commercialisation.
Thanks to everyone that was part of Book Hackday: our speakers, supporters, and hackers. There's a comprehensive record of the day through Flickr photos; presentations on Slideshare; and tweets.
